Enrollment, Payments and Tuition

Policies & Procedures

Please see our complete policies and procedures for full details.

NOTE: Please read our policy page carefully – your signature on the enrollment form means you have agreed to all of BalletNova Center for Dance policies and procedures.

Enrollment

Enrollment for classes is on a first-come, first-served basis, and reserves the dancer's place in that class. Currently enrolled students will have a chance to register in advance of the general public, with PRIORITY ENROLLMENT (except for summer workshops).

New students are accepted throughout the semester on a prorated basis.  If a class is full, Class Card holders will not be able to dance – only enrolled students, who have reserved their spot.

Tuition for the Young Children, Youth and Teen Enrichment and Adult Divisions is based on a 20-week semester.  If you are enrolling in more than 2 classes per week as an individual or family, we offer a family/multiple class discount (if enrollments are received by the published deadlines and are for the entire semester).  Enrollment forms for all returning students should be postmarked by one week prior to the beginning of the semester to avoid a registration fee of $25.

Children's Enrichment Division and Pre-Professional Division students must enroll for their semester classes. Students age 15 and above may take adult classes.

Tuition

If you are registering for one class per week, tuition is due in full upon registration.

If you are registering for two or more classes per week, tuition may be paid in monthly installments with the 1st due upon registration. Please complete and submit the Installment Form along with your enrollment.

Students are responsible for any additional tuition resulting from switching to a higher-tuition class and no refunds are provided from switching to a lower-tuition class.

Payment Methods

We accept cash, checks, credit cards (VISA, MasterCard, Discover), or direct debit.  Print out the enrollment form and either mail it, fax it (on our secure fax line, 703-778-3016) or email as an attachment to info@BalletNova.org.

Enrollment form is accepted and processed only after payment is made.

There is a $25 fee for all returned checks and debit payments, and declined credit card charges.

Refund Policy

Tuition is not refundable unless the Center cancels a class or workshop.  BalletNova Center for Dance is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization and cannot provide refunds.  If a student decides to voluntarily drop out of a class, they are still responsible for the full tuition.

If BalletNova cancels a class or workshop, you have the option to 1) receive a refund, 2) receive a credit on your account good towards tuition within a certain time period, or 3) make a tax-deductible contribution for the amount.  Only documented medical circumstances that prohibit a student from taking class will be considered for the application of a credit towards the next semester. If unused by the end of the next semester, all credits will expire. These medical conditions (which must include a doctor’s note) must be reported immediately in writing to frontdesk@BalletNova.org for consideration.  Any household credits are not transferable to other households for use, credits must be used within the same household.

If unused by the end of the fiscal year (June 30), all credits will expire.

Enrollment: Enrollment for classes is on a first-come, first-served basis. Class sizes are limited; register early to ensure desired class time. New students are accepted throughout the semester on a prorated basis.

Adults: Enrollment is the most cost effective, guarantees your space in class and does not require you to check in at the front desk each time you come to class. It also ensures that you will receive all pertinent communications. Adult students working at the beginning level are encouraged to enroll so as to take full advantage of the progression of the course with a single instructor. Make up classes may be taken if a class is missed  Enrolled students also receive discounts plus the option to take additional classes at a discounted rate. If enrollment is not feasible adults may choose a class card or walk in options which best suits their needs. Students with class cards and those who are taking a walk-in or trial class must check in at the front desk prior to class. If a class is fully enrolled, class card and walk-in students will be admitted on a space available only.

Additional Options:

  • Single class:  $20/class
  • Private lessons:  $90/hour; $45/ ½ hour
  • Professional rate (professional dancers/BalletNova Alumni:  $12/class - send request to Ms. Woods at nwoods@balletnova.org)
  • Extra Class for Registered Adult Students: $16/class

ALL CLASS CARDS EXPIRE JUNE 30th.  Regular 5 and 10 Class Card holders my pay in smaller amounts during June due to the expiration date ($18 per class).

Class card holders – get there early! Students with class cards and those who are taking a walk-in or trial class, must check in at the front desk prior to class, so please get there 15 minutes prior to class start-time so you can check-in and avoid missing any bit of your class.

“All You Can Dance” card holders may be asked to show ID. Class card holders are not guaranteed a spot in the class if it’s full – to reserve your space, enroll for the semester.

Refer a New Student – Earn $50 Tuition Credit!
If you refer a new student to BalletNova Center for Dance and they enroll for a semester or academic year class, you can earn a $50 credit toward your own tuition! See more information about our BAlletNova Referral REwards (BARRE) program.

Attendance/Punctuality:  Students who are more than 10 minutes late will be asked to return for a makeup on another day, or take a later class (missing the initial warm-up can contribute to injury; latecomers also disrupt the class for the teacher and other students). Late dancers will be asked to observe. If a dancer is going to be absent you should call or email the studio to excuse the child. Dancers can take a makeup class in an equivalent or lower level class (adults may choose what seems appropriate, or ask your teacher). Make-ups cannot be taken during observation classes in January and June (contact the studio for schedule information during those months).  Make ups are not available between family members and must be taken within the same semester.

Injury and Sickness

Should an injury or serious illness occur that prevents the student from participating in classes, please notify BalletNova immediately, preferably by emailing frontdesk@BalletNova.org.  After receiving a detailed doctor’s note describing the length of time away from class completely, and the rehab (if injured) schedule, then a medical credit can be issued for days/weeks missed.  BalletNova considers time missed due to an injury to be full-time.  Once the student returns to part or full-time dancing, the tuition is due in full.  Students should always communicate directly with their instructor if an injury is preventing them from working full out. Parents may also send in a note with the student.

Classroom Etiquette:  From the moment class begins until it finishes, students are expected to listen closely to the teacher and not speak unless asked a question. Students are not to leave or interrupt any class in session.  Should a student need to be excused, they must obtain permission from the teacher before leaving. Dancers will show respect and courtesy for all students, teachers and staff members.  Disruptive and improper behavior will not be tolerated – neither will bullying, negative, derogatory comments, or overblown egos.  At BalletNova, we all support and encourage each other.

Studio Etiquette for Parents:  Parents are not allowed to observe class unless invited or if there is a special parent observation class.  Parents are not allowed past the main doorway into the studio wing. It is understood that parents will not communicate or distract children while in class, and will stay away from the glass doorways.  Parents are requested to sit in the community room during class, and not in the hallways.  If there is an emergency and a student needs to be pulled from the class, the parent/guardian must go to the front desk and ask a staff member to assist them.

We need your help! Parent and Adult volunteers are the lifeblood of our organization, and it’s very important that everyone help out in whatever way they can.  Be a DO-ER, a DONOR, or a DOOR-OPENER!

  • Do-ers – sign up to be on a committee – help backstage – sew costumes – be a classroom parent – get program ads from your doctor, dentist, hairdressers – plan a special event

  • Donor – your financial support is key to the continued growth and viability of the organization

  • Door-opener.  Who do you know?  Any corporate contacts who might be interested in being performance or program sponsors? Local politicians? Community leaders looking for arts partnerships? School or outreach contacts?  Your neighborhood association newsletter with special events listings? Well-to-do patrons of the arts looking for an organization to become involved with? An online Moms/Parent group?  Your local PTA or private school, who may let you put out performance or Open House Flyers?

Financial Need

A limited amount of financial aid is available to families who demonstrate need. A Financial Aid Request Form must be filled out to request Financial Aid and submitted along with the most recently filed 1040 tax form to be considered for Financial Assitance - aid is not guaranteed.  Financial Aid recipients (student and/or parents) are asked to volunteer a minimum number of hours per year and give back to BalletNova. All students must demonstrate consistent dedication to their training, have excellent attendance and be ambassadors for BalletNova in their communities.
